Qian Named PING Honorable Mention All-America

(NORMAN, Okla.) – Sophomore George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) became the third Carnegie Mellon University men's golfer in school history to be named All-America.  Qian was recognized on the NCAA Division III PING All-America honorable mention team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), joining Ian and Paul Bangor as the only other All-Americans in Tartan golf history.  Ian achieved the honor in 2013 while his father Paul received the distinction in 1985.

Qian garnered two other postseason accolades, as he was named to the PING Mid-Atlantic Region team for the second straight season and named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District At-Large team.

The sophomore finished the season with a team-best average round of 74.4 through 19 rounds with two tournament wins, three top-three finishes and four top-ten finishes.  Qian shot a career-low and school-record tying round of four-under-par 67 during the second round of the Hershey Cup to win the tournament.  He became the fifth Tartan, and first since 2009, to claim the individual medalist at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.
