Tartans Compete at Opening Round of Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic
(ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the opening round of the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic in cold and wet conditions on Saturday, October 3. The Tartans overcame the weather to card a team score of 308 and currently are in fifth-place of the 15-team classic. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being played at the par-72 The Bridges Golf Club
Leading the field after 18 holes of play is Allegheny with a 296. The host, McDaniel, is in second with a 302 followed by Franklin & Marshall and Kenyon with a 306.
Sophomore Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) and freshman Austin Lin (Los Gatos, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) led the Tartans with a three-over par 75 on Saturday. It marked season-low rounds for both.
Juniors George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) and Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./Sutherland) carded rounds of 77 and 81, while fellow junior Jordan Klodowski (Kittanning, Pa.) ended the day with an 87.
Play continues on Sunday morning with the first tee times at 8:50 a.m. The Tartans first tee time is slated for 11:15 a.m. as the Cardinal and Gray will be playing with Stevens and Kenyon.
