Men’s Golf Sets School Record and Wins Edward Jones Shootout

(APOLLO, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team hosted the its annual Edward Jones Shootout Sunday, April 10 at The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pennsylvania.  The Tartans entered two teams into the Shootout with the 'B' squad appearing as individuals on the official results. The Tartans won the event after firing a school record round of 282 on the par-70 course while the 'B' team carded a 296 and finished in fifth-place.

Ben Bliss from Saint Vincent College claimed individual medalist honors after carding a two-under 68.  Bliss tied with Robert Pickett of Allegheny College, but won the tiebreaker which was the score on the back nine with Bliss carding a 33 and Pickett a 35.
    
Junior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) tied for third after entering the clubhouse with a one-under par 69. Classmate Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./ Pittsford Sutherland) and sophomore Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy) both carded rounds of even par and tied for fifth. Sophomore Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) shot a 73 and junior Jordan Klodowski (Kittanning, Pa.) fired a 78.

The Tartans entered a 'B' Team into the Shootout, while all members will be listed as individuals. Junior Alex Woodward (Aurora, Ontario) shot a one-over par 71 to lead the way. Junior Ryan Karbowicz (Avon, Conn.) and freshmen Patrick Tan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Prince of Wales Secondary) and Nicholas Moreno (Hawthorne, Calif./Windward School) each carded a 75. Junior Alexander Pomerantz (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) entered the clubhouse with a 76.

Three other individuals competed for the Tartans with freshman Austin Lin (Los Gatos, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) leading the charge with a 73. Sophomore John Shlonsky (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) shot a 78 and freshman Adrian Berger (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) an 81.

The Tartans will be back on the Links April 15-16 when they compete at the Fred Kravetz Invitational hosted by the University of Rochester. The two-day, 36-hole event will be played at Irondequoit Country Club and Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York.
