Qian Repeats on CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University junior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy), a member of the men's golf team, was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team. CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Qian is a business administration major with a 3.87 GPA and recently was named to the PING Mid-Atlantic Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America for the third straight season.  He was a first-team All-UAA member, won both of his matches during the UAA match play championship in March, topping Keenan Hickton of Emory 5-and-4 before knocking off NYU's Lucas Oberholtzer 4-and-2.  The junior finished the season with a team-best average round of 75.6 through 19 rounds with a tournament win, three top-three finishes and five top-ten finishes. Qian recorded a season-low round of four-under par 68 during the final round of the TaylorMade-adidas Intercollegiate and was named Division III Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Golfer of the Month for March.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Qian will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
