Qian Repeats as PING Honorable Mention All-America

(NORMAN, Okla.) – For the second straight season, junior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team has been recognized on the NCAA Division III PING All-America honorable mention team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Qian becomes the program's first two-time All-American honoree.

Qian garnered two other postseason accolades, as he was named to the PING Mid-Atlantic Region team for the third straight season and named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District At-Large team for the second consecutive year.

He was a 2016 first-team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) member after winning both of his matches during the UAA match play championship in March. The junior topped Keenan Hickton of Emory 5-and-4 before knocking off NYU's Lucas Oberholtzer 4-and-2.  Qian finished the season with a team-best average round of 75.6 through 19 rounds with a tournament win, three top-three finishes and five top-ten finishes. He recorded a season-low round of four-under par 68 during the final round of the TaylorMade-adidas Intercollegiate and was named Division III Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Golfer of the Month for March.

Qian's honor is the fourth for the Carnegie Mellon men's golf program, as Ian and Paul Bangor are the only other All-Americans in Tartan golf history. Ian achieved the honor in 2013 while his father Paul received the distinction in 1985.
