Qian Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar

(NORMAN, Okla.) – Junior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team has been named a Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). This marks the fourth straight year that Carnegie Mellon has had a golfer named a scholar, as Qian becomes the 19th Tartan to receive the honor.

Qian already this season garnered his second straight PING All-America honorable mention honor by the GCAA and was named to the PING Mid-Atlantic Region team for the third straight season and to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District At-Large team for a second consecutive year. He was selected as a 2016 first-team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) member after winning both of his matches during the UAA match play championship in March.

Qian finished the season with a team-best average round of 75.6 through 19 rounds with a tournament win, three top-three finishes and five top-ten finishes. He recorded a season-low round of four-under par 68 during the final round of the TaylorMade-adidas Intercollegiate and was named Division III Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Golfer of the Month for March.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
