Men’s Golf Sits First Following Opening Round of Carnegie Mellon Shootout

(APOLLO, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team hosted the first day of the Carnegie Mellon Spring Shootout Saturday, April 8 at The Links at Spring Church in Apollo, Pennsylvania.  The Tartans are currently in first after play on Saturday, as they fired a team score of 301 on the 6,516-yard, par-70 course.

Junior Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) led the Tartans with an opening round of three-over 73, as he sits atop the individual leaderboard in a field of 49 golfers. Sophomore Patrick Tan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Prince of Wales Secondary) was two strokes back from Mohan with a 75.

Senior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) ended play on Saturday with a 76 while classmate Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./ Pittsford Sutherland) shot a 77. Junior Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy) shot an 83.

The Tartans had two individuals play in the invitational with senior Alexander Pomerantz (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) firing 76 and sophomore Nicholas Moreno (Hawthorne, Calif./Windward School) shooting an 80.

Round two continues Sunday, April 9 with a shotgun start set for 9:00 a.m.
