Men’s Golf Places Second at UAA Championship Match Play

(PALM COAST, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the University Athletics Association (UAA) Championship match play final Tuesday against Emory University and dropped a hard fought 3.5-1.5 decision. The two-day, 36-hole championship was played at Hammock Beach Resort on the 6,972-yard, par-72 Conservatory Course in Palm Coast, Florida.

Freshman Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) defeated Eric Yiu 2-and-1 while senior Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) was even through 18 holes with Connor Yakubovas as the team-match was already decided.

Both Li and Mohan were named to the All-Tournament team. Li won both of his matches during the championships while Mohan won his opening round match and then tied on Tuesday. It marked Mohan's second appearance on the squad after earning the accolade a year ago.

Two other Tartans participated in an individual event taking place among other golfers not participating in match play. Freshman Trevor Arashiro (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) shot a 159 (81-78) and classmate Aryan Chordia (Dubai, UAE/Jumeriah College) ended with a 161 (80-81).

The Tartans will next compete at the three-day Jekyll Island Invitational at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Georgia, beginning Friday, March 16.
