Men’s Golf Receives Eighth Straight Academic Accolade for 2018-19 Season

The 2018-19 Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team was one of 28 NCAA Division III institutions who received the All-Academic Team award from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Tartans finished the year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.09, as it marked the eighth straight season the Cardinal and Gray have received the accolade.

Following the most successful season in program history, Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf coach Dan Rodgers was selected as the Golf Pride Grips/Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. This marks Rodgers’ second regional honor after receiving the same accolade following the 2017 campaign.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team turned in the program's best finish on the national stage when the Tartans finished 11th at the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships on Friday. The 72-hole championship event was played at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky, with the final two rounds played on the par-72, 7,190-yard Champion Trace Course. In 2009, the team finished 22nd while the Tartans ended play at the 2017 championships in 31st.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team played the par-72, 7,190-yard Champion Trace Course in the third round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships on Thursday at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The Tartans fired a team score of 313 and have a 54-hole score of 912 (307-292-313) and are 11th heading into the final round on Friday morning.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday morning and carded a four-over par 292 as team on the par-72, 6,897-yard Keene Run Course at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The Cardinal and Gray have a 36-hole score of 599 (307-299) which places them tied for eighth in a field of 42 teams and advances them to rounds three and four of the championship event. Following play on Wednesday, the field was cut to the top 18 teams and the top six individuals not on one of those teams.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened play at the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday. The Tartans shot a team score of 307 on the par-72, 7,190-yard Champion Trace Course at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky in are in 16th in a field of 42 teams following the first 18 holes. Illinois Wesleyan University leads the championships after the opening round of play with a one-under-par 287.

For the second straight season, sophomore Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team has been named by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) as a semifinalist for the NCAA Division III Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol. The Nicklaus Award recognizes the top players at the Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA levels.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team has been selected to compete in the 2019 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships. The championships will be held May 14-17 at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky, on the Champion Trace Course and the Keene Run Golf Course. Transylvania University will be hosting the four-day event.

Li, also a first-team selection, is joined by sophomore Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) who garnered second team accolades.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team carded a 288 during the final round of the Strimer Memorial Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Sunday to finish in a tie for second. Sophomore Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) tied a school record with a four-under par 67 to lead the Tartans on the par-71 Oakhaven Golf Club in Delaware, Ohio. The Cardinal and Gray ended the event with a 588 (300-288) to tie for second.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened play on Saturday at the Strimer Memorial Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on the par-71 Oakhaven Golf Club in Delaware, Ohio. Freshman Henry Scavone (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm), who entered the event as an individual, carded a four-under par 67 which ties the school record for the lowest round in program history. The Tartans as a team carded a score of 300 in the opening 18 holes of play.

The Tartans as a team are in third after carding a 301 on the par-71, East Course at Hershey Country Club. The two-day, 36-hole event finds Franklin & Marshall leading with a 294 followed by Wittenberg University with a 295.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team carded a final round of 299 at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate in Montgomery, Alabama on Tuesday, and placed sixth with a 36-hole score of 603 (304-299). Host, Huntingdon College won the 15-team event with a score of 575 (289-286). The 36-hole event was played at the par 72, 6,979-yard Wynlakes Golf & Country Club and featured nine teams ranked in the top 25 nationally.
