Tartans Place Sixth at NCAA D-III Preview

(NICHOLASVILLE, Ky.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the final round of the 54-hole NCAA Division III Preview held at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky on Tuesday afternoon. The Tartans carded a 301 during Tuesday's round to finish sixth in a field of 18 teams with an 894 (307-286-301) on the par-72, 7,190-yard course.

Emory University won the event with a 54-hole score of 866 (300-277-289). Wittenberg University placed second with a 890 followed by Washington & Lee University and Illinois Wesleyan University with an 892. Huntingdon College placed fifth with an 893.

Sophomore Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) led the Tartans with a three round score of 218 (74-69-75) after entering the clubhouse Tuesday with a three-over par 75. The sophomore tied for seventh individually in a field of 90 golfers. Freshman Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) finished five strokes behind Li with a 223 (77-73-73) following his second straight round of one-over par 73.

Sophomore Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) carded a 79 and ended with a 224 (76-69-79). Freshman William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) turned in his best round of the preview Tuesday with a two-over par 74 and finished the 54-hole event with a 229 (80-75-74). Senior Patrick Tan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Prince of Wales Secondary) shot a 79 in the third round to complete the event with a 242 (85-78-79).

Carnegie Mellon will next compete at the Gordin Invitational held at the Deleware Golf Club in Deleware, Ohio, on October 1-2.
