Folker Leads Men’s Golf at First Day of The Tartan Invitational

(LIGONIER, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team, ranked 11th nationally, opened the first 36 holes The Tartan Invitational on Monday with a score of 605 after carding rounds of 303 and 302 and are in seventh in a field of 12 teams. The 54-hole, two-day event is hosted by Carnegie Mellon and being played at the historic Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, which is a par 72, 7,156 yard course.

Emory University, the nation's top team, leads the field with a 573 (292-281). Fourth-ranked Wittenberg University is currently second with a 579 (288-291) and followed by second-ranked Methodist University with a 592 (291-301) to round out the top three spots. Matt Organisak of Emory is the individual leader after 36 holes with a four-under par 140 (73-67).

Sophomore Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) opened played with a three-under par 69 after carding five birdies and an eagle in round one. The sophomore finished the day with a 145 after firing a 76 in round two.

Sophomore Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) sits three strokes behind Folker with a 148 (75-73). Freshman William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) improved six strokes in round two and shot a one-over par 73 to finish the day with a 152 (79-73).

Sophomore Jay Milch (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) finished play on Monday with a 161 (81-80). Freshman Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) shot a 36-hole score of 165 (80-85).

The final round is set to start at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday and will be a shotgun start.

Laurel Valley Golf Club opened in 1959 and was designed by Dick Wilson and renovated by Arnold Palmer. Since its opening, the club has hosted two notable tournaments: the 1965 PGA Championship and the 1975 Ryder Cup. Other tournaments played on the course include the 1989 U.S. Senior Open, the 2001 Marconi Pennsylvania Classic and the 2005 Senior PGA Championship.
