Men’s Golf Advance to Third Straight UAA Championship Match Play Final

(PALM COAST, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the University Athletics Association (UAA) Championships on Saturday in a four-team match play format. The 2019 championships are being played at Hammock Beach Resort on the Conservatory Course in Palm Coast, Florida. In the opening round, the Tartans faced New York University and defeated the Violets 4-1. Hammock Beach Resort Conservatory Course is a par-72, 6,776-yard course.

Sophomores Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy), Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Jay Milch (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) along with freshman William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) all were victorious on Saturday to lift the Tartans to their third straight title match.

Li defeated Matthew Shen 8-and-6, Folker won 3-and-2 over Chris Lee Milch defeated Moibhi Tyndall 6-and-4 while Knauth won 1-up over Joey Burlison.

Two other Tartans participated in an individual event taking place among other golfers not participating in match play. Freshman James Pak (Palisades Park, N.J./Bergen Catholic) carded 75 while senior Patrick Tan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Prince of Wales Secondary) shot a 78.

Carnegie Mellon will face Emory University on Sunday for the UAA Championship, with the match beginning at approximately 7:45 am. Emory defeated University of Rochester, 4-1, in the other semifinal contest.
