Jason Li Named Finalist for Jack Nicklaus Award

(NORMAN, Okla.) – Junior Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team has been named by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) as a finalist for the NCAA Division III Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Golf.com. The Nicklaus Award recognizes the top players at the Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA levels.

Li, who repeated as University Athletic Association (UAA) Player of the Year and a PING First Team All-American, was named a finalist for the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award after being named a semifinalist the previous two seasons.

The junior finished the season with a team-best average round of 70.9 through 14 rounds. In 10 of his 14 rounds, Li shot even-par or lower. On two occasions, he carded a school record round of 66 and tied classmate Jason Folker at the Savannah Invitational for the lowest individual 54-hole total of 204, as they tied for second individually in a field of 90 golfers.

Li helped lead the Tartans to the highest final ranking in program history of fourth nationally when the final rankings were released at the beginning of April.

The other Division III finalists for the award include; Emmet Herb of St. Thomas (MN), Drew Mathers of Huntingdon, Cade Osgood of Southwestern (TX) and Rob Wuethrich of Illinois Wesleyan. The recipient of the award will be announced during the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide, scheduled July 13-19.
