Knauth Ties Career-Low Round to Lead Tartans at Opening Round of Jekyll Island Collegiate

(JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the first round of the Jekyll Collegiate Invitational on Friday. The Tartans carded a team score of 293 and are currently sixth in a field comprised of 25 teams. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.

Junior William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) tied his collegiate-best round with a five-under par 67. Following a round were the junior carded five birdes, he currently is on top of the individual leaderboard in a field of 133 golfers.

Senior Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) continued his stellar play firing a two-under par 70 and is tied for fifth. Li recorded three birdies and eagled hole 18 on Friday afternoon.

Junior Henry Scavone (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) entered the clubhouse with a three-over par 75. Senior Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) finished with an 81 while classmate Jay Milch (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) shot an 89.

The second round of the event will be held Saturday, March 20 with the first group teeing off at 8:00 a.m.
