Men's Golf Makes Cut at 2021 NCAA Championships, Tartans in Fifth

(WHEELING, W.Va.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf competed in the second round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday and carded a 291 (+11) as team on the par-70, 6,661-yard Palmer Course at the Oglebay Resort & Conference Center in Wheeling, West Virginia. The Cardinal and Gray have a 36-hole score of 591 (+27) which places them fifth in a field of 37 teams and advances them to rounds three and four of the championship event. Following play on Wednesday, the field was cut to the top 18 teams and the top six individuals not on one of those teams.

Illinois Wesleyan University continues to lead the championship field after two rounds of play with a 576 (+12).

Senior Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and classmate Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) led the Tartans on Wednesday with rounds of two-over par 72. Folker has a 36-hole score of 143 (71-72) and is tied for fifth individually in a field of 191 golfers. Li has a 146 (74-72) and tied for 15th.

Junior William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) shot a three-over 73 and has a 150 (77-73). Junior Henry Scavone (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) turned in a round of 74 and has a 36-hole score of 153 (79-74) while senior Ben Huber (Hampton, Pa./Hampton) carded an 81 and has a 159 (78-81).

Play resumes Thursday, as the final two rounds will be played on par-71, 6,857-yard Speidel Jones Course. Huber will tee off first for the Tartans at 9:20 a.m.
