Folker Ties School Record, Tartans Tied for Third After First Day of NCAA D-III Preview

(HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the opening round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Preview on Sunday and carded a 287. The 54-hole event is being held at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida with play on Sunday on the par-72, 6,869-yard Las Colinas Course. The Cardinal and Gray will enter play Monday tied for third in a field of 24 teams.

Senior Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) tied the school record for the lowest individual round in the program's history, as he carded a six-under par 66 Sunday afternoon to lead the Tartans. Folker currently is second individually in a field of 122 golfers. Senior William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport Area) fired an even par 72 and is tied for 22nd.

Freshman Justin Chan (London, United Kingdom) shot a two-over par 74 followed by a three-over par 73 for senior Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif. / Lowell). Sophomore Brian Xu (San Diego, Calif. / Torrey Pines) finished play with a 78.

Play resumes Monday on the par-72, 6,750-yard El Campeón Course at 8:00 a.m.
