Tartans Place Sixth at 2021 NCAA D-III Preview

(HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the final round of the 54-hole 2021 NCAA Division III Preview held at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida with play on Tuesday on the par-72, 6,750-yard El Campeón Course. The Tartans carded a 291 during the final round to finish sixth in a field of 24 teams with an 872 (287-294-291).

Methodist University won the event with an 852 (273-290-289) while Emory University placed second with an 857 followed by Huntingdon College with an 860. Wittenberg University finished fourth with an 864 and two-time defending national champion Illinois Wesleyan University shot an 867 for fifth.

Senior William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport Area) led the Tartans with a three-round score of three-under par 213 (72-71-70) after entering the clubhouse Tuesday with a two-under par 70. The senior finished tied for eighth individually in a field of 122 golfers.

Senior Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif. / Lowell) carded an even par 72 in the final round and finished with a 221 (75-74-70). Classmate Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) tied Lim with a 221 following rounds of 66, 78 and 77.

Freshman Justin Chan (London, United Kingdom) was one stroke behind Lim and Folker with a 222 (74-73-75) while sophomore Brian Xu (San Diego, Calif. / Torrey Pines) ended the 54-hole event with a 228 (78-76-74)

The Tartans will next compete at the Wabash Invitational that is being played at Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis, Indiana October 4-5.
