Knauth Cards Back-to-Back Rounds of 69 to Lead Tartans at Wabash Invitational

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the first day of the 54-hole Wabash Invitational Monday afternoon. With the 36-holes being played on Monday, the Tartans carded rounds of 292 and 287 on the par-72, 6,722-yard Broadmoor Country Club course in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Tartans will enter play on Tuesday fourth in a field of 14 teams after posting a 36-hole score of 579.

Senior William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport Area) led the Cardinal and Gray on Monday with back-to-back season-low rounds of three-under par 69. The senior is currently tied for second individually in a field of 70 golfers with a six-under par 138. In the opening round, Knauth eagled hole 12 while also recording three birdies. The second round saw the senior card five birdies.

Sophomore Brian Xu (San Diego, Calif. / Torrey Pines) shot a collegiate-best round one-over par 73 to open play while posting eagles on holes 12 and 18 to open play. It marked the first time in program history that a Tartan has recorded multiple eagles in a single round. He then carded a 74 in round two to finish with a 147.

Freshman Justin Chan (London, United Kingdom) entered the clubhouse with back-to-back rounds of two-over par 74 for a 148. Seniors Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) and Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif. / Lowell) will start play on Tuesday tied with a 150. Folker shot rounds of 76 and 74 while posting an eagle on hole 12 in round two. Lim opened the day with an 80 before improving 10 strokes during the second round to fire a two-under par 70.

Play resumes Tuesday with the third round starting at 9:00 a.m.
