Men's Golf Competes at First Day of The Savannah Invitational, Play Stopped Due to Darkness in Round Two

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team, ranked eighth nationally, competed in the opening day of The Savannah Invitational hosted by Berry College on Monday, March 7. The 54-hole event is being played at The Club at Savannah Harbor Golf Course which is a par 71, 6,715-yard course. The Tartans carded an opening round of 289. Play was stopped in the second round due to darkness with the Cardinal and Gray tied for third in the 19-team field through 16 holes played in the second round.

Senior Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif. / Lowell) recorded his collegiate-low round in the opening 18 holes shooting a three-under par 68 and currently has a four-over par through 16 holes in the second round. Senior William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport Area) fired a two-over par 73 to start play and will resume play tomorrow one-over par in the second.

Freshman Justin Chan (London, United Kingdom) recorded an eagle in both rounds on hole 12 and fired a two-over par 74 for the first round. Through 16 holes in round two he is two-under. Both senior Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) and sophomore Brian Xu (San Diego, Calif. / Torrey Pines) carded opening rounds of 74. Folker is three-over and Xu is six-over through 16 holes in round two.

Carnegie Mellon had two individuals compete on Monday at the Savannah Quarters Country Club, as sophomore Stephen Dai (Bellevue, Wash. / Lakeside School) shot a 76 and senior Henry Scavone (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) carded a 79.

Play resumes Tuesday with the conclusion of the second round starting at 8:00 a.m. followed with round three.
