Tartans Place Fifth at Jekyll Island Collegiate

(JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team finished play at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Sunday with a fifth-place finish in a field of 30 teams. The Tartans ended with a 54-hole score of 858 (279-287-292) after carding a 292 in the last round. The three-day event was played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island. The 858 is the second lowest 54-hole team tournament total in program history.

Freshman Justin Chan (London, United Kingdom) turned in another round of even par golf Sunday to end the event with a 212 (68-72-72) and tie for 12th individually in a field of 150 golfers.

Senior William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport Area) carded a two-over par 74 and finished with a 215 (70-71-74). Senior Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) and sophomore Brian Xu (San Diego, Calif. / Torrey Pines) had 54-hole scores of 218 and 219, respectively. Folker shot a 77 Sunday after recording rounds of 71 and 72 while Xu shot a three-over par 75 to close the event following his rounds of 70 and 74. senior Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif. / Lowell) had the Tartans best round Sunday with his second round of one-under par 71 to end with a 221 (71-79-71).

The Tartans will next compete at The Hershey Cup at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa., April 3-4.
