Tartans Sit On Top of Leaderboard After Opening Round of Division III Showcase

(FRENCH LICK, Ind.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened play at the Division III Showcase on Monday. Due to weather the tournament has been shortened to 36 holes after only being able to complete 18 Monday. The Cardinal and Gray currently are leading the 20-team field after posting a round of seven-over par 287 on the par-70 course. The event is hosted by Hanover College and is being played at The Donald Ross Course at French Lick in French Lick, Indiana.

Senior William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport Area) led the Tartans with a round of even par 70 and is tied for fourth individually in a field of 100 golfers. It marked his 14th round this season of carding even par or under.

Senior Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif. / Lowell) shot a one-over par 71 while freshman Justin Chan (London, United Kingdom) and senior Henry Scavone (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) both fired rounds of 73. It marked a season-low round for Scavone. Senior Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) ended play Monday with a 77 after carding even par on the back nine.

The final round will be played Tuesday beginning at 9:00 a.m.
