Scavone and Xu Named All-America Scholars; Team Earns 12th Straight Academic Honor

Two members of the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team, graduate student Henry Scavone and junior Brian Xu, have been named Division III All-America Scholars as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) for their play on the course and in the classroom. This marks Xu’s second straight honor.

For the first time in program history, four Carnegie Mellon University men's golfers have been named to the Division III PING All-American Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Freshman David Zhang was named to the second team while graduate student Henry Scavone, junior Brian Xu and sophomore Justin Chan received honorable mention status.

Fifteen Carnegie Mellon University student-athletes were named to a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team for Division III, nominated by members of CSC, for the golf and cross country and track and field seasons. College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) rebranded to CSC in the summer of 2022.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team made history on Friday afternoon, winning the first NCAA Division III Championship in university history. The Tartans turned in a remarkable final round (-9) to finish play at the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships in Nicholasville, Kentucky with a 72-hole score of one-under par 1,151 (292-285-295-279) to become national champions!

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed carded a 294 in the third round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships on Thursday in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The Tartans have a 54-hole score of 872 (292-285-295) and are tied for fourth in a field of 43 teams heading into the final round of play.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The Tartans carded a three-under par 285 on the Keene Run Course at the Keene Trace Golf Club and have a 36-hole score of 577 (292-285) which places them tied for third in a field of 43 teams and advances them to rounds three and four of the championship. Following play on Wednesday, the field was cut to the top 18 teams and the top six individuals not on one of those teams.

Graduate student Henry Scavone, junior Brian Xu, sophomore Justin Chan along with freshmen Andrew Wang and David Zhang were named to the 2023 PING Region 5 team.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened play at the first round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The Tartans played their opening round on the Champion Trace Course at the Keene Trace Golf Club while carding a 292 and are currently tied for 10th.

Zhang, also a first-team selection, is joined by graduate Henry Scavone on the first team and junior Brian Xu who garnered second team accolades.

Knauth is in the field at the AT&T Byron Nelson Championship on a sponsor exemption after winning the 2022 Byron Nelson Award, given to a graduating senior for his achievement in the classroom, on the course and in the community. A former Carnegie Mellon standout, Knauth is the first D-III athlete to win the award since 2008 and beat out highly ranked Division I amateurs Cole Hammer and Trent Phillips.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team has been selected to compete in the 2023 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships. The championships will be held May 16-19 at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky, on the Champion Trace Course and the Keene Run Golf Course. Transylvania University will be hosting the four-day event.
