(GREENSBORO, N.C.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened its season on Monday at the Gate City Invitational which is being played at Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. Following 36 holes of the 54-hole event, the Tartans are tied for sixth after carding rounds of 292 and 291 for a 583 on Monday.

How it Happened:

  • Freshman David Zhang carded back-to-back rounds of even par on Monday in his first collegiate event and is tied for 12th individually in a field of 90 golfers with a 142.
  • Junior Brian Xu fired rounds of 75 and 71 for a 146. Xu's second round score of even par 71 was his collegiate-best round.
  • Sitting one-stroke back of Xu is sophomore Justin Chan with a 147. Chan opened play with a one-under par 70 and then shot a 77 in round two.
  • Graduate student Henry Scavone will enter play on Tuesday with a 149. Scavone followed his opening round 76 with a two-over par 73 in the second round.
  • Junior Stephen Dai fired rounds of 77 and 76 for a 153. His second round score of 76 ties his collegiate-best.

'B' Team Competes at Allegheny Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Invitational:

  • The Tartans 'B' Team competed in a 16-team field of Sunday and Monday at the Allegheny Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Invitational in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The two-day, 36-hole event was played at the par 72 Country Club of Meadville with the Cardinal and Gray tied for second at the event with a 601 (304-297).
  • Freshman Andrew Wang was the Tartans top golfer as he shot a four-over par 148 (74-74) in his first collegiate event.
