Tartans Tie for Sixth at Gate City Invitational
(GREENSBORO, N.C.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team finished play at the 54-hole Gate City Invitational on Tuesday which was played at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Tartans placed tied for sixth after carding a 858 with rounds of 287, 285 and 286.
Inside the Invitational:
Tournament Finish: T-6th of 18 Teams
Tournament Team Champion: Methodist (-29) (835 (284-277-274))
Tournament Individual Medalist: Chase Walts and Haden Ruby, Methodist (-13)

Par: 72
How it Happened:
- Freshman Leonardo Vieira led the Tartans with a six-under par 210. He carded a four-under par 68 in round one, three-under par 69 in round two and a 73 in the final round. He placed 11th individually in a field of 96 golfers.
- Senior Justin Chan fired a one-under par 215 over the three rounds with scores of 73, two-under par 70 and even par 72.
- Junior David Zhang carded his best round of the invite in round three with a three-under par 69 and finished with a 217 (76-72-69).
- Freshman Will Blankenship ended play with a 222 (71-74-77).
- Sophomore Steven Shea finished the 54-hole event with a 222 (75-75-72).
Notes:
- The Tartans 54-hole score of 858 (-6) is tied for the fifth lowest three-round score in program history.
