One Shot Drops Tartans Against Otterbein

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team hosted Otterbein University for its second game of the year during the DoubleTree Invitational on Sunday, August 31. The visitors made one shot count, earning a 1-0 win over the No. 18 Tartans, now 0-2 on the season.

Neither team could get on the scoreboard in the first period as the Tartans had one shot saved and two go wide.

In the second period, the Tartans were in their final third on a few different ocassions but couldn't get a tally before Otterbein earned a free kick in the 58th minute.

Jared Pulliam took a shot from just outside the 18-yard box where the foul was called. His shot cleared the wall and found the near post upper 90 for the score and 1-0 Otterbein advantage.

Immediately following the Otterbein tally, the Tartans were forward and had two attempts by junior Dimitrije Slavkovic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) stopped by Cardinal keeper Mack Stamper. The first was a kick save by Stamper which preceded a leaping grab in the corner of the goal following a header attempt by Slavkovic off a Tartan corner kick.

Sophomore Tristan Lockwood (Victor, N.Y./Victor) had a shot attempt saved by Stamper in the 62nd minute and was involved in a near equalizer in the 83rd minute when his pass off the line across the box was deflected wide by freshman Matt De Jesus (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day).

Junior Eric Bykowsky (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) made one save during the game in goal for the Tartans who will next be in action on Friday, September 5 when they face Capital University at 5:00 p.m. at Hiram College.
