Tartan Men Close Season with 0-0 Tie Against #14 Emory

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team closed the regular season with a 0-0 tie against University Athletic Association (UAA) foe and 14th-ranked Emory University on Saturday, November 8. The draw puts the Tartans' record at 8-5-3 for the year with a 2-2-3 UAA finish.

In the first period, senior keeper Jacob Rice (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) made three saves with the biggest coming in the ninth minute when Sebastian Hardington flicked a crossing pass from Jason Andrejchak high and toward the goal. Rice, who was off his line, lept and pushed the ball up as it hit the crossbar and ricocheted back in to play.

In the 34th minute, junior Stefan Dasbach (Philadelphia, Pa./Wissahickon) took a shot for the Tartans that was swooped up by Emory keeper Abe Hannigan.

The second half was full of action as the Tartans got off six shots to the Eagles' four.

With 14 minutes to play, Scott Haley of Emory (13-3-2, 3-3-1) lasered a shot from nearly 50 yards out to the upper right corner. Rice was there to swat it away.

The Tartans best opportunity of the half came with 6:48 to play. Senior Connor Webb (Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce) raced to the center of the 18-yard box as a through ball was played up the middle. Hannigan charged off his line and slid making the save, as Webb made contact for the shot.

In extra time, Webb had a shot blocked before Emory had multiple opportunities in the final 10 minute period. Rice made two saves to preserve the shutout while sophomore Andreas Fatschel (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley) slid and cleared a shot off the line.
