No. 17 Tartans Control Possession in 0-0 Tie to Westminster

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The 17th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team played to a 0-0 decision to the Titans of Westminster College on Monday, September 21. The Tartans are now 5-1-1 while the Titans are 4-2-2.

The Tartans registered 23 total shots with eight of them on goal for the game.   Tartan senior keeper Eric Bykowsky (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) recorded one save, as the Cardinal and Gray defense held Westminster to four total shots.

In the final seconds of regulation, senior William Webb (Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce) closed in on the goal from the end-line forcing a late shot attempt, but Titan keeper Tyler Little made the stop with 13 seconds remaining sending the game into overtime.

Following an intense first overtime, the Tartans nearly broke through on three occasions for the game-winner.  The first coming two minutes into play when freshman Zack Masciopinto's (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) shot hit off the crossbar.  With 1:19 to play the start of Carnegie Mellon's final two chances occurred. Westminster's defender stopped freshman Anthony Gulli's (Warrenville, Ill./St. Joseph) shot off the line, before Gulli placed another shot on goal, but Little was there for his eighth and final save of the evening.

The Tartans will be back in action on Friday, September 25 when they entertain Grove City College at 4:30 p.m.
