First Half Goal Holds Up in Tartans 1-0 Victory at Chicago

(CHICAGO, Ill.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team defeated the University of Chicago, 1-0, on the road Sunday, November 1 in a key University Athletic Association (UAA) match up. The Tartans are now 11-2-3 overall and 3-1-2 in the UAA while the Maroons fall to 10-5-2, 2-3-1.

The Tartans capitalized on their first opportunity which came in the ninth minute. Freshman Philip Petrakian (Redwood City, Calif./Sacred Heart Preparatory) served a corner kick that fellow freshman Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) finished with a header for his fourth goal of the season.

It wasn't until the 66th minute before the Tartans got another shot off and it was one by sophomore Jimmy Jameson (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) that was blocked by a Chicago player.

Freshman Alec Lam (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) was in goal for the Tartans, making his first start of the season, and stopped six Maroon shots to secure his first career shutout and second career win.

The Tartans will close out the regular season on Saturday, November 7 when they travel to Case Western Reserve University for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
