Tartans Suffer Heartbreaker in Double OT in First Round of NCAA Championship

(LANCASTER, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team played Gordon College in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship on Saturday, November 14 with the Fighting Scots defeating the Tartans 2-1 in double overtime. The Tartans close out the season with an 11-4-3 record.

Freshman Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) gave the Tartans a one-goal advantange in the 52nd minute when he scored his fifth goal of the season. Masciopinto finished a corner kick by junior Tristan Lockwood (Fairport, N.Y./Victor).

Right after the Tartans scored, senior William Webb (Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce) had a shot saved by Gordon's Josh Spoonhour.

Freshman Alec Lam (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) made two saves in goal for the Tartans after Masciopinto's goal before Gordon capitalized on a play inside the box. With 3:29 to play, Caleb Cole had his shot blocked by the Tartan defense but Aaron Tarjanian was near by to finish the rebound for his second score of the year and the game's equalizer.

Gordon took that momentum into overtime and were able to score the game winner in the 107th minute on Evan Crocker's seventh goal of the season. Tyler Modzeleski earned the assist on the play.
