Tartans Remain Unbeaten at Home, Top Pitt-Greensburg 2-1

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team welcomed University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg to Pittsburgh on Tuesday, October 4 for an evening match and defeated the Bobcats, 2-1. The Tartans are now 8-1-1 on the year while the Bobcats drop to 0-11.

The Tartans first got on the board in the 38th minute after a teammate was fouled outside the 18-yard box to the left of the goal. Sophomore Anthony Gulli (Warrenville, Ill./St. Joseph) sent the free kick opportunity to the center of the goal where sophomore Mike Lin (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy) beat everyone to the ball and fired a shot over the keeper for the 1-0 lead.

In the 71st minute, Gulli was in the mix again as he ran down a ball with a defender on his back and touched the ball back to sophomore Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) who took an immediate shot to the near post for his fifth goal of the season.

The Bobcats broke up the shutout in the last second when Brent Velasquez finished off a pass across the box by Jake Lauderbaugh.

Freshman Jack Sampiere (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) earned his fifth win in goal for the Tartans.

The Tartans will return to University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Saturday, October 8 at New York University at 1:30 p.m.
