Tartans Earn Critical Tie at Emory

(ATLANTA, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team earned a tie in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Sunday, October 16 at Emory University with a 1-1 final score. The Tartans are now 9-2-2 and 1-1-2 in UAA play while the Eagles are 8-3-1 and 2-1-1.

Sophomore Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) scored for the Tartans in the second minute when he headed in a corner kick by sophomore Philip Petrakian (Redwood City, Calif./Sacred Heart Preparatory). Masciopinto now has nine goals for the season and has scored in four straight.

The Eagles tied the match in the 35th minute when Jason McCartney knocked in a loose ball in front of the goal.

The Tartans played down a man from late in the 46th minute and surrendered just one shot on goal during that time which was saved by freshman Jack Sampiere (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines).

Sampiere made five saves for the game to record the tie and now has a record of 5-0-1 for the year.

The Tartans will host La Roche College on Wednesday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. before returning to UAA play on Friday, October 28 against Washington University at home at 7:30 p.m.
