(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team hosted La Roche College on Wednesday, October 19 in non-conference action and defeated the Redhawks, 5-0. The Tartans are now 10-2-2 on the season while the Redhawks fall to 8-6-2.
The Tartans opened the scoring in the sixth minute when freshman Alex Dziadosz (Boxford, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) dribbled around a defender and finished a shot for his second goal of the season.
Eighty seconds later freshman Elliot Cohen (Solana Beach, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy) buried a shot from the 18-yard box that he one-timed off a long high pass forward from Dziadosz.
Cohen struck again in the 14th minute when he again got behind the defense and finished a forward pass from sophomore Philip Petrakian (Redwood City, Calif./Sacred Heart Preparatory).
The last goal of the half came off the foot of sophomore Anthony Gulli (Warrenville, Ill./St. Joseph) in the 44th minute. Junior Harry Landis (Highland Park, N.J./Highland Park) took a quick throw in from inside 10 yards. His throw-in went to Gulli who was unmarked in the box. Gulli turned and after a touch, took the shot to the far inside net.
The Tartans scored their final goal in the 82nd minute when senior Aedan Marty (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Alderdice) finished a pass off the end line from Landis.
Freshman Jack Sampiere (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) and junior Andrew Ferber (Danville, Calif./Dougherty Valley) split time in goal for the Tartans to earn the shared shutout. Sampiere earned the win to move his record to 6-0-1.
The Tartans return to University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday, October 28 when Washington University in St. Louis visits Pittsburgh for a 7:30 p.m. match.
