#23 Tartans Fall on Rainy Afternoon to #1 Chicago, 2-0

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The 23rd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team hosted No. 1 University of Chicago on Sunday, October 30 with the Maroons earning a 2-0 victory on a rainy afternoon. The Tartans are now 11-2-2 and 2-2-2 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Maroons improve to 16-0-1 and 5-0-1.

Sophomore defender Greg Bellwoar (Devon, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) put back-to-back shots on goal in the 15th minute following a corner kick by sophomore Anthony Gulli (Warrenville, Ill./St. Joseph). Both attempts were saved by Hill Bonin.

In the 31st minute, sophomore Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) had a header saved by Bonin before sophomore Jamie Wheaton (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) put a shot on goal that Bonin also stopped.

The Maroons got on the board in the last two minutes of the first half when Dayo Adeosun sent a corner kick to the far post. Sam Drablos rose up and headed the ball down and past freshman keeper Jack Sampiere (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines).

Bonin made two more saves in the second half before Brenton Desai scored an insurance goal for the Maroons in the 86th minute. Adeosun sent a low pass across the box that was skipped through by Max Lopez and finished by Desai.

Sampiere made five saves for the game.

The Tartans will host their final regular season game on Saturday, November 5 at 3:30 p.m. when Case Western Reserve University visits Pittsburgh.
