Masciopinto Nets Two in Win Against Case Western Reserve

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team topped Case Western Reserve University, 2-0, on Saturday, November 5 behind two goals by sophomore Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove). The Tartans close the regular season with an overall record of 12-3-2 and a University Athletic Association (UAA) mark of 3-2-2.

Masciopinto's first goal came in the second minute. Senior Devin Keane (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) sent a cross in front of the goal from the right sideline and Masciopinto met it with his head for the first score.

Sophomore Alec Lam (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) kept the Tartans with a 1-0 advantage with two saves in the first half including one off a free kick by Jack Rademacher that he cleared out of the upper 90.

In the second half, Masciopinto added to the score line with his 13th goal of the season in the 67th minute. Sophomore Anthony Gulli (Warrenville, Ill./St. Joseph) played a quick pass forward inside the 18-yard box to Masciopinto who jumped over a sliding defender. Masciopinto settled the ball deflected by the defender and slotted a shot to the low far post.

The Tartans will now tune into the NCAA Selection Show at 1:00 p.m. to see if they'll receive an at-large bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III Championship which will begin play on Friday, November 11 or Saturday, November 12 at campus sites.
