(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team struck early against visiting Westminster College and went on to a 4-0 victory on Friday, September 15. The Tartans move to 4-1 on the season while the Titans drop to 2-4-1.

Sophomore Jack Painter (Bethlehem, Pa. / Moravian Academy) was the first to score for the Tartans when he finished off a diagonal pass from sophomore Elliot Cohen (Solana Beach, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy) in the early seconds of the fourth minute. Cohen played a ball over the defense which Painter settled and shot to the opposite post for his first goal of the season.

In the ninth minute, junior Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill. / Buffalo Grove) was the recipient of a Cohen pass that he finished low under the keeper for his third score of the year and a 2-0 lead for the Tartans.

Junior Anthony Gulli (Warrenville, Ill. / St. Joseph) added to the score line in the 36th minute when he riffled a shot to the right upper 90 from 20 yards out. Sophomore Nicholas Poveda (Miami, Fla. / Coral Gables) tipped a ball to the left side for Gulli who took a few dribbles forward and around a defender before he struck the shot.

The final tally of the game came in the 80th minute by Poveda. Sophomore Alex Dziadosz (Boxford, Mass. / Phillips Academy Andover) touched a ball forward that Poveda shot from left to right for his first score of the season.

Junior Alec Lam (Upper Saddle River, N.J. / Northern Highlands Regional) made four saves in goal for the Tartans as he shared a shutout with freshman Alex Singh (Golden, Colo. / Lakewood) and senior Andrew Ferber (Danville, Calif. / Dougherty Valley).
