#21 Tartans Earn Fifth Straight Shutout, Top Allegheny 4-0

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) - The21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team earned its fifth straight shutout on Monday, September 18 when it defeated Allegheny College on the road, 4-0. The Tartans improve to 5-1 on the season while the Gators drop to 3-4.

Scoring opened in the eighth minute when senior Jimmy Jameson (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) converted his second penalty kick of the seaon. The goal was also his fifth of the year.

Junior Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill. / Buffalo Grove) nearly added to the score in the 11th minute but his shot hit the crossbar. Junior Anthony Gulli (Warrenville, Ill. / St. Joseph) scored for the second straight game when he put a shot to the top left corner in the 19th minute. Fellow junior Philip Petrakian (Redwood City, Calif. / Sacred Heart Preparatory) earned the assist after he lobbed a pass over the defense.

Sophomore Cooper Tubiana (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) made the score 3-0 late in the first half when he finished a shot to the top right corner in the 39th minute off a feed from senior Ryan Stinebaugh (Houston, Texas / Strake Jesuit College Prep).

After sophomore Jack Painter (Bethlehem, Pa. / Moravian Academy) had two shots turned away by the defense, he finished a shot from 15 yards out to the lower left corner in the 61st minute for his second tally of the year.

Junior Alec Lam (Upper Saddle River, N.J. / Northern Highlands Regional) and freshman Alex Singh (Golden, Colo. / Lakewood) each made one save in goal for the Tartans, as Lam earned his fifth win of the season.

The Tartans return to action on Friday, September 22 at home against Grove City College at 6:30 p.m. before hosting seventh-ranked John Carroll University on Sunday, September 24 at 2:00 p.m.
