Tartans Tie Emory, 2-2

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team hosted Emory University on Friday, October 27 in University Athletic Association (UAA) action and closed the game with a 2-2 draw to move to 10-3-2 on the year and 2-2-1 in the UAA. The Eagles are now 11-4-1 and 3-1-1.

Sophomore Cooper Tubiana (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) opened the game's scoring in the 16th minute when he one-timed a shot past the keeper's right side from the penalty arc. Tubiana was gifted the ball off a defender's foot after the Tartans strung together three passes starting with junior Jack McCambridge (Bethlehem, Pa./Moravian Academy) playing a ball to junior Jamie Wheaton (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) from the right sideline. Wheaton then played a ball in to junior Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) however the defender slid to clear it and the ball landed at Tubiana's foot for the shot.

Less than two minutes later, Masciopinto scored his team leading eighth goal of the season. Wheaton was again involved when he played a ball in to Masciopinto on the right side. Masciopinto turned, took a touch or two to his left and curled a left-footed shot around the defense and keeper for the 2-goal advantage for the Tartans.

Emory cut the deficit in half early in the second period when Christian Meyer played a low cross through the box from the right side. It skipped through the defense and Moustafa Khattab one-timed a shot from the penalty mark low to the right corner with 47:36 gone by. 

The Eagles earned a corner kick in the 56th minute and Adam Ferguson served the ball to the back post. Aidan Datene headed the ball down and it skipped slowly across the line for the equalizier.

Masciopinto had a chance in the first overtime with a header that was saved by Cole Gallagher after a lofted service by junior Anthony Gulli (Warrenville, Ill./St. Joseph) over the defense.

The Eagles nearly put in the golden goal in the 104th minute when a shot by Ferguson went just wide of the left post.

The Tartans will next host the University of Rochester on Sunday, October 29 at 11 a.m. for their last home game of the season.
