Tartans Earn 1-1 Tie with #22 Kenyon

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team hosted 22nd-ranked Kenyon College on Sunday, September 2 in the second game of the season for both teams. The Tartans earned a 1-1 tie after equalizing late in the second half.

Kenyon scored early in the game when Brice Koval knocked in a pass from Gunner Found in the eighth minute. Carnegie Mellon's Alec Lam (Upper Saddle River, N.J. / Northern Highlands Regional) made three saves in goal during the first half to keep the score a 1-0 at the first break.

Freshman Jason Edmunds (Libertyville, Ill. / Libertyville) forced the first save of the day by Kenyon's keeper Ian McInturf in the 64th minute with Lam making another save shortly after.

In the 85th minute, Edmunds picked up a pass in the corner off the foot of senior Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill. / Buffalo Grove). Edmunds preceeded to dribble past two defenders along the end line and center a pass low to the foot of senior Anthony Gulli (Warrenville, Ill. / St. Joseph) charging to the center of the net. Gulli one-timed a shot that went off a retreating defender and trickled over the goal line at the post for the equalizer.

Both keepers made a save in the first overtime with no shots making it on goal in the final 10 minutes.

The Tartans will next host 20th-ranked Lycoming College on Friday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m.
