(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team toppled La Roche College by a 10-0 score on Sunday, September 9 during a rain-filled afternoon. Sophomore Jordi Long (Silver Spring, Md. / Montgomery Blair) scored twice and assisted on two goals off the bench for the Tartans who are now 3-0-1 for the season.
Long's first goal came just before the end of the first half when he put the Tartans ahead 6-0 with a shot fired to the right of the keeper off an assist by sophomore Patrick Kollman (Little Silver, N.J. / Christian Brothers Academy).
As the second half started, Long assisted on a goal by junior Cooper Tubiana (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) in the 49th minute, scored his second goal of the game one minute later when he dribbled through the defense before placing a shot to the left of the keeper, and then assisted on a goal by Kollman in the 53rd minute.
The final goal of the game was scored by freshman Callan Capitolo (Kentfield, Calif. / The Branson School) in the 69th minute when he scored on an unassisted play by dribbling on the left side of the goal with a shot to the far post.
The Tartans started the scoring 20 seconds into the game when juinor Nicolas Poveda (Miami, Fla. / Coral Gables) picked up a through ball by junior Alex Dziadosz (Boxford, Mass. / Phillips Academy Andover) and put a shot past the keeper on the left side of the goal.
Poveda then assisted on the second goal by the Tartans when juinior Elliot Cohen (Solana Beach, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy) chipped a shot over the keeper in the 15th minute.
Other goals for the Tartans were scored by senior Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill. / Buffalo Grove) in the 18th minute, Dziadosz in the 31st minute, and junior Jack Painter (Bethlehem, Pa. / Moravian Academy) in the 44th minute.
Sophomore Alex Singh (Golden, Colo. / Lakewood) and freshman Alex Barakat (McLean, Va. / Langley) split time in goal for the Tartans with Singh earning his first career victory. Singh made one save in 61:20 of action.
The Tartans will next face Westminster College at 7:30 p.m. on the road on Friday, September 14.
