Second Half Goals Lift Tartans to 2-0 Home Win

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team defeated Thomas More College, 2-0, on Thursday, October 18. The Tartans improved to 9-3-2 for the season while the Saints dropped to 4-9-2 for the year.

After a scoreless first half, the Tartans got on the scoreboard in the early seconds of the 58th minute with junior Elliot Cohen's (Solan Beach, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy) sixth goal of the season. Cohen was fouled in the box, leading to a penalty kick by Cohen. His attempt was saved at the post by Jeff Paulin but the rebound was free for Cohen to finish for the score.

Prior to Cohen's goal, the Saints forced senior Alec Lam (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) to make two saves within a two-minute span.

In the 85th minute, senior Jamie Wheaton (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) dribbled into space in the center of the field before taking a shot from 30 yards out. His shot dipped over Paulin's head and in the net for his first score of the season and the Tartan 2-0 advantage.

The Tartans will return to University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Friday, October 26 at Emory University.
