Tartans Soar Past Eagles, 2-0, for UAA Win

(ATLANTA, Ga.) - Two second half goals led the Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team to a shutout victory at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday, October 26. The win propels the Tartans to 10 wins for the season and a 2-3 mark in University Athletic Association (UAA) play.

Senior Alec Lam (Upper Saddle River, N.J. / Northern Highlands Regional) made four first half saves for the Tartans who put two shots on goal in the first 45 minutes. In the 11th minute, junior Elliot Cohen (Solana Beach, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy) forced Cole Gallagher into a save with sophomore Nick Isham (Lansing, Mich. / East Lansing) hitting the post on the rebound. Two minutes later, Cohen again had a shot stopped by Gallagher.

It was Cohen who broke up the scoreless game in the 70th minute when he converted a penalty kick for his seventh score of the year. Prior to Cohen's goal the Tartans had five shot attempts and three corner kicks from the start of the second half.

Junior Jack Painter (Bethlehem, Pa. / Moravian Academy) added to the Tartan lead in the 77th minute with his third goal of the season. The midfielder knocked it in the corner of the frame on an unassisted play.

The Eagles (9-6-1, 0-5) had two corner kicks in the final five minutes and a header shot go wide in the 88th minute before the Tartans earned the 2-0 road win.

The Tartans will continue their road trip with an 11:00 a.m. match at No. 9 University of Rochester (11-2-1, 2-2-1) on Sunday, October 28.
