McCambridge, Masciopinto Honored on CoSIDA Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer seniors Jack McCambridge (Bethlehem, Pa./Moravian Academy) and Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Google Cloud Academic All-District men's soccer team, as announced by the association. Masciopinto's honor is the third of his career while McCambridge sees his name on the list for the second season.
To be eligible for the award, players must be starters or significant reserves in at least their sophomore season and carry a minimum GPA of 3.30. Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Both honorees move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration, an honor McCambridge received last year.
Masciopinto's third Academic All-District honor comes on the heels of a season in which he starred in nine games before a season-ending injury left him sidelined during the Tartans run through University Athletic Association (UAA) play. During his time on the pitch, Masciopinto recorded six goals, scoring in five straight contests while the Tartans took a 6-0-2 record into UAA action. A three-time captain for the Tartans, Masciopinto finished his career as a two-time All-UAA First Team selection with 32 goals. His 32 goals is the most by a Tartan since Ricky Griffin scored 51 from 2006-2009 and is eighth-best in Tartan history.
Masciopinto will complete his degree in mechanical engineering and robotics and currently carries a 3.74 GPA. He is the vice president of member development for CMU Solar Racing, a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), and volunteers with Team IMPACT, Special Olympics, and at Arsenal Middle School in Pittsburgh as a clinician and mentor. Masciopinto has also been involved with the Lincoln Elementary tutoring program by Carnegie Mellon athletes where he visits weekly to assist students in math and reading. Last summer, he interned at Lockheed Martin Space Systems where he plans to return in 2019 before completing a one-year master's program in mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon.
McCambridge is also a four-year starter for the Tartans where he plays outside back. This year, the Tartans hold a 0.84 goals against average with six shutouts. As a senior, McCambridge maintains a 4.0 GPA as a mechanical engineering major with a minor in business administration. As a junior, McCambridge was inducted into Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and spent his spring semester at Apple where he was part of the battery product design team.
McCambridge stays busy at CMU as a member of CMU Solar Racing and the CMU Hyperloop team. He was a mechanical engineering intern for Nucor Steel in 2016 and a satellite propulsion design intern at Boeing in 2017. After his 7-month stay at Apple in 2018, McCambridge was offered a full-time position where he'll continue work in battery product design. McCambridge is also the team's philanthropy leader where he coordinates the after-school program with Arsenal Middle School and he's joined the program at Lincoln Elementary helping with fifth grade math.
