#11 Tartans Finish Season with OT Loss at #10 Kenyon

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team faced 10th-ranked Kenyon College in the second round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship at Kenyon on Sunday, November 11 after advancing via penalty kicks in the first round. The Tartans held a 1-0 lead late before Kenyon won in overtime, 2-1. The Tartans end the season with an 11-5-3 record.

Carnegie Mellon took the lead in the 50th minute when junior Elliot Cohen (Solana Beach, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy) finished a cross into the box by sophomore Nick Isham (Lansing, Mich. / East Lansing).

Kenyon pushed to equalize and did with 33 seconds remaining in the contest. A corner kick with less than a minute left was sent toward the back post. The Tartans cleared it but the ball ended back in the box as Kenyon sent everyone forward, including its goalkeeper. The ball was knocked around a bit before Keven Duan was able to find Sam Carson in the crowd who finished a shot for the game-extending goal.

A foul on Carnegie Mellon with a minute and 12 seconds to play in overtime led to a free kick for the Lords inside their final third. The kick was sent toward the goal where the Tartans struggled to clear it. Max Taylor ended up with the ball just left of the goal near the end line where he chipped it to the far post for an easy header by Sam Hosmer-Quint and the game was over.

The Tartans second round game was the second for the Tartans under fifth-year head coach Brandon Bowman.
