It was a memorable fall for the Carnegie Mellon Athletics Program, as five of six fall teams advanced to postseason play, the basketball and swimming and diving teams got off to great starts, and the women’s golf team earned a number one national ranking. Four teams competed in the NCAA postseason, including the women’s soccer team’s run to the national semifinals, and the Tartans once again finished the fall 16th in the Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings. On top of the competitive success, 104 student-athletes achieved 4.0 grade-point averages (GPA) and more than 60 percent of the student-athletes earned a 3.50 GPA or better.

Carnegie Mellon University men’s soccer senior Elliot Cohen (Solana Beach, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy) has been honored on the United Soccer Coaches All-Great Lakes Region Team as a third-team selection announced by the association on Monday, December 2. The regional honor is the second of Cohen’s career as he was named to the second team last season.

Carnegie Mellon University men’s soccer senior Jack Painter (Bethlehem, Pa./Moravian Academy) earned first-team recognition from the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches to headline the Tartan players named to the All-UAA Men’s Soccer Team. Joining Painter on the team is senior Elliot Cohen (Solana Beach, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy), senior Jacob Moskowitz (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier Township) and sophomore Jason Edmunds (Libertyville, Ill. / Libertyville) all as honorable mention selections.

Carnegie Mellon University men’s soccer junior Andrew Singh (Golden, Colo./Lakewood) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team, as announced by the association. The honor is the first for Singh and fifth straight year at least one member of the Tartans received the award.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team visited sixth-ranked University of Chicago on Sunday, November 3 for a University Athletic Association (UAA) game. A late second-half goal by the home team dropped the Tartans, 1-0, and moved their record to 6-8-1 for the year and 2-4 in the UAA. The Maroons moved to 10-1-5 and 6-0.

Senior Alex Dziadosz (Boxford, Mass. / Phillips Academy Andover) tallied both goals for the Tartans who are now 5-6-1 overall and 1-2 in the UAA. The Yellowjackets fall to 7-5 and 0-3.
