No. 18 Tartans Top La Roche 5-1

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Five different players scored for the 18th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team in a 5-1 win against La Roche University on Sunday, September 8. The Tartans are now 2-2 for the season while the Redhawks fall to 1-3.

Junior Nick Isham (Lansing, Mich. / East Lansing) put the Tartans on the board first with a header in the 12th minute. Freshman defender Hale Lieberman (Chevy Chase, Md. / Bethesda-Chevy Chase) put a cross into the box from the left sideline following a touch back to him off a throw in play by senior Alex Dziadosz (Boxford, Mass. / Phillips Academy Andover).

In the 39th minute, senior Elliot Cohen (Solana Beach, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy) scored his third goal of the season when he picked up a loose ball just outside the center circle and lofted a shot over the keeper when he noticed he was playing high in the box.

Just before the half finished, senior Cooper Tubiana (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) scored inside the box following a corner kick by Cohen. The corner kick was placed at the far post where sophomore Jonty Nobbs (Los Angeles, Calif. / Harvard-Westlake) headed it back into the center of the six-yard box. Senior Nicolas Poveda (Miami, Fla. / Coral Gables) touched it forward and Tubiana slid in for the shot before the Redhawks keeper could get to it.

Isham was involved in another goal, this time assisting on sophomore Jason Edmunds (Libertyville, Ill. / Libertyville) second goal of the season. Isham collected a ball on the left side of the field and dribbled past a few defenders before putting a diagonal ball into play for freshman Josh Baugh (Boynton Beach, Fla. / Boca Prep) and Edmunds who were charging up the field. Baugh cleverly let the ball run under his foot for Edmunds who had a free shot to put it in the left corner with his left foot.

The Redhawks earned their goal when Firas Abduljawad one-timed a clearance off a free kick from 20 yards out that was redirected by a Tartan defender and past sophomore Alex Barakat (McLean, Va. / Langley) in goal for the Tartans.

The final tally of the game came off the foot of junior Patrick Kollman (Little Silver, N.J. / Christian Brothers Academy) in the 85th minute. Dziadosz played a ball through the defense to Kollman making a diagonal run. Kollman then touched it forward and chipped the keeper before the ball hit both posts and crossed the goal line.

The Tartans will next host Westminster College on Friday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m.
