Tartans Outshoot Gators but Fall in OT, 1-0

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team took to the road Monday night for a non-conference game at Allegheny College. The Tartans battled the Gators to a scoreless 90 minutes before falling 1-0 in the first overtime period. The Tartans are now 3-3 for the season while the Gators picked up their first win and are now 1-6.

Both teams got four shots off in the first 45 minutes with the Tartans putting one on frame and the Gators forcing junior Alex Singh (Golden, Colo. / Lakewood) to make two saves.

The Tartans were responsible for most of the action in the second 45 minutes, firing 14 shots with eight on target. Senior Elliot Cohen (Solana Beach, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy) just missed giving the Tartans the lead in the 58th minute when his shot banged off the right post. Singh made another five saves in the second half, as the teams went to the extra period looking for the game-winner.

Junior Nick Isham (Lansing, Mich. / East Lansing) had the first shot of overtime in the 92nd minute but his low shot was stopped in the center of the net by Jack Barron-Sluga. Just more than a minute later the Gators earned a corner kick. Following a substitution, Danny Reid was able to break the tie with the golden goal for the home team. A short corner player resulted in a one-touch give-and-go and Reid was left alone on the edge of the 18-yard box with a free shot which he lofted to the opposite upper 90 over a leaping Singh for the score.

The Tartans will next host Grove City College on Friday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. before hosting fourth-ranked John Carroll University on Sunday, September 22 at 3:00 p.m.
