Tartans Fall in Close UAA Contest, 1-0, to NYU

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to New York University on Saturday, October 12 at home. The Tartans are now 4-6-1 overall and 0-2 in the Universtiy Athletic Association (UAA) while the Violets move to 5-4-1 and 2-0.

Junior Alex Singh (Golden, Colo. / Lakewood) made three saves in the loss while the Tartans put six shots on goal but couldn't get past Luca Mancuso or Nick Vafiadis before the final whistle.

The Violets scored in the 72nd minute after being award a free kick right of the goal and 18 yards out. Sergio Monton served the kick just over the Tartan wall and to the center of the goal where Maxi Rodriguez got a foot on it low to the ground, chipping the shot over Singh for the score.

Senior Jack Painter (Bethlehem, Pa. / Moravian Academy) had two shots on goal in the final three minutes, as both were stopped by Vafiadis.

The Tartans will return to action on Friday, October 18 when they host the University of Rochester at 7:30 p.m.
