Tartans Sweep UAA Athlete of the Week Awards

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer senior Jack Painter (Bethlehem, Pa./Moravian Academy) and junior Alex Singh (Golden, Colo./Lakewood) were named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week after leading the Tartans to a 4-0 win at Case Western Reserve University to close the season.

Painter closed his career with two goals and an assist on Saturday against the Spartans. He assisted on the first goal of the game when he served a corner kick to the near post where senior Nicolas Poveda headed it for the score in the 42nd minute. Six minutes into the second half, Painter scored his first goal of the season on an unassisted play when he finished in a shot off a defender's poor clearance inside the box. The senior then scored the fourth goal of the game on a one-v-one with the keeper after a long run off a pass through the defense by sophomore Jason Edmunds in the 74th minute.

Singh made seven saves to record his fourth shutout of the season and finish with seven wins. Three of his saves came before the Tartans scored their first goal. Another save came with the Tartans ahead 2-0, with the final three saves coming past the 77th minute to preserve the shutout.
