Singh Honored as CoSIDA Academic All-American for Men’s Soccer

Carnegie Mellon University senior Alex Singh (Golden, Colo. / Lakewood) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Men’s Soccer Team, becoming the first men’s player to earn the award since two were honored in 2018. Singh was named to the third team and is one of three goalkeepers selected to the 33-member team.

Carnegie Mellon University senior Alex Singh (Golden, Colo. / Lakewood) and junior Jason Edmunds (Libertyville, Ill. / Libertyville) were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team, as announced by the association. Singh is the lone goalkeeper on the District 4 team, while Edmunds is one of five defenders. Singh is also a repeat honoree, as he was named to the team in 2019. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Tartans Dominate in Win Against Point Park

The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team ended its home slate of games this spring with a 5-0 victory against Point Park University on Wednesday, March 31. The Tartans had five different players score while three goalkeepers shared time in goal to record the shared shutout.

Although the traditional fall and winter seasons haven’t been on display for Carnegie Mellon University this year, the excellence of the university’s student-athletes is still impacting the entire community. Each winter for the past six years, the CMU Department of Athletics has celebrated its top academic athletes at the Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Celebration during finals week. And while an in-person celebration is on hold for now, the highest-performing junior and senior student-athletes in each undergraduate college and on each team are still being recognized for their academic performance.

Despite not being able to compete this semester, the Carnegie Mellon University Athletics Department paused to celebrate its seniors on Saturday, October 17, as the program recognized the career accomplishments of fall senior student-athletes. Forty-six seniors were recognized from men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball. The athletics department hosted a celebration in conjunction with the university’s 2020 Virtual Homecoming.

When this summer’s quarantine redefined what people could do in their spare time, Max Tassano saw an opportunity. Tassano, who graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 2014 with a degree in International Relations and Politics and later got a Master’s in Public Policy and Management from Heinz College, became involved with CMU Tech and Entrepreneurship, a community that facilitates the sharing of knowledge and networking among Carnegie Mellon students and alumni.
