Tartans Take #11 NYU to Double OT

(RIVERDALE, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team played into double overtime against 11th-ranked New York University (NYU) on Saturday, October 9 but ultimately fell 2-1 after a goal 40 seconds into the final frame gave NYU the win. The Tartans are now 6-2-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the University Athletic Association (UAA).

The Tartans took the lead in the 19th minute after freshman Kuba Yiadom (Bowie, Md. / Charles Herbert Flowers) was taken down in the box by NYU keeper, Luca Mancuso, after Mancuso tried to play a backward pass with his feet which he lost to Yiadom and then tripped the Tartan forward heading to the goal. Junior Josh Baugh (Boynton Beach, Fla. / Boca Prep) took the spot kick for the Tartans and finished it for his fourth goal of the season and third penalty kick goal.

Carnegie Mellon held the one-goal lead into the second period until the 64th minute when Alex Rovirosa-Illa scored inside the box for the Violets.

After the first overtime period witnessed a shot off the crossbar by the Violets, the home team was able to earn a throw-in up field and Nathan Bennett picked up a free ball at the near post and finished a left-footed shot between senior keeper Ethan Kalis (Riverwoods, Ill. / Adlai E.
